At Mighty minds Montessori our curriculum is mainly based on Montessori Early education – Montessori method is an early learning method that was found by Dr. Maria Montessori by prolong scientific observation about children and their development through learning as they progress from birth to adulthood. It is about creating an optimal environment where children can develop intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally. The uniquely prepared environment incorporates holistic learning outcomes tailored to individual child developmental needs and interests based on their sensitive periods.

Montessori Curriculum covers five significant areas of learning – Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, and Culture. Along with the Montessori Curriculum at Mighty Minds Montessori we cover Arts/crafts, Music, Health and Wellbeing. While collaborating the above, we strictly maintain the licensing stands of Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care.

“An education capable of saving humanity is no small undertaking; it involves the spiritual development of man, the enhancement of his value as an individual, as a preparation of young people that understand the times in which they live”

-Dr. Maria Montessori

Practical Life – Practical Life activities help children learn to take care of the environment they live in. These activities help the children become independent of the adult and promote their self-esteem. Practical life activities include grace and courtesy, care for one’s self and others, care for the environment. The additional benefits of these activities are that they enhance eye-hand coordination of young children bring concentration and independence. Practical life activities prepare the children for further learning in all the other areas.

Sensorial – The children carry out the sensorial activities with the use of scientifically designed sensory materials. These materials and activities help the children express and classify their sensory experiences. The purpose of the Sensorial activities is to aid in the development of the intellectual senses of children, which develops the ability to observe and compare with precision. The sensorial activities mainly focus on promoting the children’s tactile impression, auditory sense, olfactory, taste perception, and stereognosis sense.

Mathematics – these concepts are introduced to the child using concrete sensorial materials. The concepts are introduced in the form of visual quantity and then the symbol. Once the children have a good understating of the quantity and symbols, there are many activities for associating both for more consolidation. All four operations of math are introduced visually and gradually to abstract learning.

Language – In our Classrooms, language materials are designed to enhance vocabulary and explore both written and spoken language. Through all our language-based activities, such as the sandpaper letters, Movable Alphabet, children learn phonetic sounds and how to compose words phonetically. The children continue to progress using concrete materials to compose their written work, read and learn to communicate their unique thoughts through a variety of language materials.

Culture – In our classrooms, the cultural activities are expanded as per the interest and needs of the children in the program. Children are provided experience through music, stories, artwork, puzzles, stories and materials from the children’s community, social background and more. The areas of Geography, Science, Zoology, and botany are all included in the areas. The cultural experience expands children’s curiosity, capacity for creation, fine and gross motor skills, and respect towards others in the community and around the world.
